Dr. Shigeak Hinohara  / Honorary director of St. Luke’s International Hospital     
Received a Cultural Medal in 2005 for his effort and dedication to improve Japanese medical science, propelling methods of preventive medicine and terminal care.

  • 1.Dr. Hinohara was born in 1911; and will be turning 105 years old in 2016.At the age of 102, he stood for 40 minutes while giving a speech about “The development history of anti-aging medicine” in the Japanese Society of Anti-Aging Medicine.
  • 2.At the age of 96, Dr. Hinohara still walked fast and vigorously, and could hear and see well. He was very active in daily life e.g. hosting meetings and giving speeches.
  • 3.Dr. Hinohara always had breakthroughs though and has contributed to healthcare innovation, including promotion of patient-participatory medical care, preventive medicine and terminal care over the past decades.
  • 4.Dr. Hui-Hsiung Liu has visited Dr. Hinohara in Tokyo for several times since 1995. Dr. Liu has been deeply touched and greatly influenced on his life through attending Dr. Hinohara’s speeches and reading his books.
